Fallible Forecasts

E-mail Print PDF

Airport Watch have published a detailed critique of the Government's forecasts of future air traffic which are used as the basis for justifying expansion at airfields.

Very detailed, the full document is available for download here icon Fallible Forecasts (1.17 MB 2008-03-14 16:17:00) as well as from the Airport Watch main site.

No emotion, no rhetoric, just a logical rebutal and demolition job on the deeply flawed official forecasts.

Over 50 people turned up at St.Mawgan Community Hall this Saturday evening for a public debate and discussion about the expansion plans for Newquay Airport. Despite being invited both the County Council and the Airport management failed to put up anyone to make the case for the massive spend of Cornwall Taxpayers money supporting the airport. The main speakers were Howard from Rising Tide Kernow who had organised the event, Malcolm Carroll from Greenpeace and Plane Stupid and Oliver Baines of Groundswell Cornwall.

County wide condemnation of Staverton expansion plan

21 COUNTY GROUPS CALL FOR STAVERTON EXPANSION PLANS TO BE SHELVED

In an unprecedented move, groups from across the County have come ogether to condemn plans to expand Staverton Airport. Their letter is reproduced below.

Philip Booth, who helped organise the letter and has campaigned for over five years against the airport expansion said: "The failures of the climate talks in Bali to come up with any real action is deeply worrying. Locally twenty-one groups have readily stepped forward to sign this letter: we could have found many more groups. A lot of us find it very hard to understand how we can allow an airport to increase emissions when we know that to avoid catastrophic climate change we all need to cut emissions by 90% or more. What other sectors will need to cut their emissions if we allow the airport to expand?"

Action at Newquay

E-mail Print PDF

Rising Tide held an action at Newquay this weekend - full report on their website.

The recently formed Kernow and Plymouth Rising Tide groups banded together to occupy Newquay Airport last Saturday. The protest put a spotlight on the airport's focus on climate-wrecking short-haul flights, and drew attention to a recent report (the Groundswell Report) on the airport which shows that the economic case for expansion is unsound

Also reported on here on Plane Stupid website and covered by local TV & Radio and reported in Western Morning News on Monday - article link here - if you missed the action you can still usefully leave a message of support on the WMN site.
